From big corporations to the smallest companies and from publishers of games to publishers of music and books, anyone that produces a product that can be digitized can fall victim to piracy or copyright  violation.
If you develop or distribute software you more than likely know the internet has its dark side with this industry.  Known offline as piracy, it take its toll, being big or small, on companies and the time they put into their work.
Online is another story however.  Online, there is unlimited reproduction capabilities with software, games and music and a single link on a web page could cost a company several copies of it's work, or in worst case scenarios, thousands of copies.  This means that there is a loss of money from theses companies.  Now consider the notion of their being more than a dozen links to a companies work, and in many cases, this is true.   Online, piracy has many names and many faces.  It is traded over chat rooms on IRC channels.  It is loaded onto FTP sites with download upload ratios (another form of trading).  It is more than often found on servers offering free website space. This is what I am out to report to my customers.
Free websites are the easy type for companies to eliminate fast.  FTP sites with ratios are not that easy to shut down, especially if they're running with a dynamic IP address (from a dial up connection), but it can be done.  IRC trading is nearly impossible to eliminate if one doesn't know what they are doing.  Its almost pointless to try and track down a single person if they only traded, or just downloaded one copy of a work.  The real problem lies with people that run file serving software along side their IRC connection (people like this usually have fast connections that they leave connected to the net, just so the can exploit hard working companies and corporations).  Tracking down people like this depends on how well those people cover their tracks.
Things are a great deal more widespread on the internet than off, and are easy to reach.  Therefore this is where my service is being offered.

What I do for you, your company, or your publication group:

  • I search the internet for copies of your music, software, or games being illegally distributed, cracked or otherwise tampered with in a way that is different from retail distribution.
  • I look for anything that will unlock shareware, be it a crack or a serial number.
  • I give you the location, or locations, of the files, or web pages, I find regarding the title or titles of software that I have been asked to search for.  (It comes in the form of a report, and includes the cracks, serial numbers and all other links, files, dates and times that I have collected during searching all stored in an archive and sent to the you through email, or placed on a CD and mailed to you)
  • I fill special requests:  Searching over a longer period of time.  Searching at intervals (Days, weeks) or on specific days.
  • As an additional service out of the field of software and music piracy, I will also search for books or any other print material in that category given that  there is possibility of it being pirated.
